Types of Braces
For most people, a beautiful smile with straight teeth is the most obvious benefit of orthodontics. After your braces come off, you’ll feel more self-confident. During your treatment, we want you to feel as comfortable as possible.
What types of braces are there?
Orthodontic appliances can be made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. They may be removable or they may be brackets bonded to teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to a corrected position.
Traditional metal braces are the most common option for orthodontic patients. Today’s metal braces are much smaller, flatter, and more comfortable then ever before. Patients of all ages choose metal braces to help them achieve beautiful smiles.
The elastic ligature or “colors” on the braces hold the wire in place. They come with 29 different options and are replaced each visit.
With clear braces, the bracket which is attached to the tooth is made of ceramic. The archwire that connects the brackets and puts pressure on the teeth is metal.
Self-ligating braces use a clip or door that hold the wire in place instead of the traditional rubber bands.

At Baird Orthodontics we use a revolutionary orthodontic sealant that helps protect your teeth during orthodontic treatment. The unique chemistry provides a physical barrier to plaque and releases and recharges fluoride to reduce the chance of cavities and white spots around the braces.
